Celebrating New Year’s Overseas
Celebrating Overseas
Edinburgh – Edinburgh, Scotland is essentially the New York of Europe when it comes to New Year’s celebrations, with their’s lasting four whole days. Concerts, parades, and street parties abound during that time and the true meaning of Auld Lang Syne is truly felt through the city. This celebration also involves gift giving and a very cold “polar plunge” type of event for those that are interested in helping charity. The parties on Princes Street are the real reason to go, but getting the opportunity to explore the beautiful city adds to the allure.
Sydney – If you want the opportunity to be one of the first to celebrate the New Year Sydney is the place to be. Not only do they get to start the party before anyone else in major cities around the world, but they throw a pretty exciting party as well, with in upwards of 1 million people attending each year. The celebration includes a huge waterfront show, an air show complete with aerial acrobatics, a boat parade, and two individual firework shows. Some of the hotels also offer perfect viewing for the fireworks and other events that take place.
Bahamas – Finally, if you are looking for somewhere you can celebrate the holiday in style and get out of the cold, the Bahamas will give you exactly what you’re looking for. The celebration is very similar to the Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans, with masquerade style parties taking place throughout the island. Hotels are known for throwing their own parties but if you want to ring in the New Year like a local you’ll want to get out and enjoy the street parades and beach parties along with the fireworks and more formal gatherings.
