The Mexican Riviera, for a Different Side of Mexico
If you want to experience a different side of Mexican destination resorts, the Mexican Riviera may be the place for you. Not to be confused with the Riviera Maya on the Caribbean coast, the Mexican Riviera is literally a different side of Mexico -the Pacific coast. The region consists of a long string of oceanfront resort cities and lagoons spread out along the Pacific shore, from Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas in the north to Acapulco and Huatulpa in the south.
Acapulco was for many years the only Mexican Riviera resort familiar to Americans, thanks mostly to Hollywood and movies like “Night of the Iguana’ and “Fun in Acapulco.” However, when cruise ships like Princess Cruises began making voyages down the Pacific coast to stop at these resort towns, the whole region became much more familiar to American travelers.
All of the resorts along the Pacific have busy wedding departments, and these resorts cater to romance seeking couples with the same close attention to service and detail as you will find at resorts in Cancun and Riviera Maya. The big difference is that these Pacific coast resort towns are far less crowded than Cancun. Cabo San Lucas is one of the places now becoming very popular. It’s a bit different from the others because it’s at the tip of the Baja California peninsula, instead of on Mexico’s tropical coast. The region was heavily damaged by a hurricane in 2014, but now most of the resorts have rebuilt and reopened with newer and better facilities to cater to your destination wedding or honeymoon.
